Astros participate in Northeast Closer Wood Bat Tournament hosted by Triple Crown Sports in North Branford Ct. on Saturday 11/11 and Sunday 11/19 (Sunday 11/12 was rained out & all games were pushed out to Sunday 11/19). The Astros finish with a tournament best 3-1 record but lose a tough playoff game to the Litchfield Lions by the score of 3-2 and wind up in 3rd place after defeating Merrick in our final game on Sunday 11/19.

Game 1 - Astros 9 Litchfield 1                                                                                                                                                                                          WP Felix Guzman

In the opener versus the Litchfield Lions the Astros trail 1-0 into the 5th inning and then explode for 9 runs in the run-rule victory. Felix Guzman gets the victory in a fine pitching performance as Captain Cam Maron singles 3 times with 2 big RBI while Zach Root (2B) and Dylan Harmon (RBI) contribute with 2 hits apiece. The Astros also turn a huge defensive play in the 5th inning and nail a Lions runner at the plate on a bang-bang play as Carminati hits Tecce who hits Maron who blocks the plate and tags out the runner! NICE!!!

The boys stay hot versus Merrick as Junior Fair picks up the win & flame thrower Jason Lapiana throws 2 hitless innings of relief with 4K's to pickup the save in the 9-4 victory! Junior also gets it done with his lumber as he adds a huge 2 run single in the 5th inning as Zach Root add 2 more hits and Vinnie Carminati drives home a big run with a mammoth triple. Nice job all around, GO ASTROS!

Game 3 - Litchfield 3 Astros 2                                                                                                                                                                                           LP Junior Fair

The boys lose a tough one to the Lions and are eliminated from playing in the championship game as the #1 seeded team, what makes this loss even harder to swallow is the fact that we run ruled the Lions last week in the opening game of the tournament! In any case, game highlights include 3 masterful innings of relief by Junior Fair who doesn't allow a hit and strikes out 6 but takes the hardluck loss regardless as the Lions score the go-ahead & game winning run in the top half of the 7th inning on an unearned run. In the bottom half of the 7th Zach Root lines out to end the game with the base-loaded and the tying run on 3rd and winning run on second as the Lions CF makes a game saving one hand diving catch to end the game, OUCH!!! Zach could not have hit it any harder, the baseball gods were not with us on this day!!! Tough luck loss in a game we coulda and shoulda won........

Game 4 - Astros 4 Merrick 4 (8 1/2 innings) ASTROS AWARDED FORFEIT VICTORY

The boys battle on after a tough loss in the opener on Sunday 11/19 and fight tooth and nail with the Merrick team who have to break the rules in an extra inning affair as the game ends after 8 1/2 innings and the Astros are awarded the forfeit victory.

Dylan Harmon comes up big and throws 6 workman-like innings and allows 2 runs (1 earned) while striking out 7 in the no-decision. At the dish Adam Binder also comes up large with 3 hits (2B) and 2 big RBI and is a perfect 4 for 4 on the day while also playing a great defensive CF. Junior Fair delivers home 2 runs as well and also scores twice while doubling down the LF line late in the game. Astros finish up the tournament with the best record at 3-1 but end up in 3rd place after a hard luck loss in the opening playoff game.
