Triple Crown Sports Columbus Day 16U Tournament - 10/6/07 thru 10/7/07 - North Branford, CT.

LONG ISLAND ASTROS FINISH IN 2nd PLACE

The Astros participate in the 2007 TCS hosted Columbus Day Tournament in North Branford, CT. on Saturday 10/6 thru Sunday 10/7. The Astros finish with a 3-1 record, good enough for 2nd place which included a tough 5-1 defeat in the championship game to the CT. Crush (who we just happened to beat 4-3 the night before in a great ballgame). Cam Maron continues to mash and lead the world in every offensive category while hitting .800 and carrying the boys on his back to a 3-1 record. Game 2 - Astros 4 CT. Crush 3 WP PJ Lenz

In what turns out to be the best ballgame of the tournament the Astros and Crush hook up in a GREAT ballgame which has the Astros trailing 3-1 entering what would be our final at-bat in the bottom of the 6th. PJ Lenz pitched his heart out going the distance for the W as he strikes out 9 batters while allowing 5 hits and 1 earned. In that epic 6th inning we are treated to a marvelous rally as Vinnie Carminati smashes a 1 out mammoth double scoring Cam Maron and PJ Lenz to tie the ballgame, with 2 out up steps Zach Root who proceeds to single home the game winner and send everyone home ecstatic!!!

Game 3 - Astros 8 Griswald 0 WP Zach Badanes

The Astros demolish Griswald in the semi-final game 8-0 behind a dominant Zach Badanes who goes the distance in the 5 inning run rule shutout while striking out 9 and allowing a measly 3 singles. The Astros smash the ball as we see Captain Cam Maron smash a leadoff homer in the 4th inning to put the Astros out in front 2-0. PJ Lenz hits the ball hard as he doubles and triples with an RBI as Junior Fair singles and triples with an RBI and Mike Sorbara ends the ballgame with a 2 run triple. Way to go boys! Onto the championship game!

Game 4 - CT Crush 5 Astros 1 LP Felix Guzman

Ouch, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.....After beating the Crush on Saturday night we hook-up again in the championship game on Sunday, unfortunately the result is slightly different. The ballgame is scoreless until the Crush take a 1-0 lead in the top half of the 3rd inning, the Astros rally for a run in the bottom of the 4th inning as Cam Maron singles and PJ Lenz drives him home with a huge double! The boys threaten but cannot push across the go-ahead run and then see the Crush score 4 runs in the 5th inning to take a 5-1 lead and coast home from there. Credit the Crush team who play well and totally shut us down as we strike out an incredulous 15 times.
