Triple Crown Sports Memorial Day 16U "Shootout" Tournament - 5/26/07 thru 5/28/07 - Holtsville, NY

LONG ISLAND ASTROS ARE 16U TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!

The Astros participate in the 2007 TCS hosted Memorial Day "Shootout" Tournament in Holtsville, NY on Saturday 5/26 thru Monday 5/28. The Astros finish with a perfect 4-0 record and are TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!!! Max Tecce had an "ALL-WORLD" Tournament as he continues to WOW us with his glove while playing SS in a consistently incredible manner! Max had the wood stick working as well, he added an incredible team leading 8 hits and .615 batting average! Captain Cam Maron delivered the "BIG CLUTCH HIT" in 3 of the 4 victories and continues to play at the very highest level! Dylan Harmon gave us quality at-bats each and every time and successfully moved runners along leading up to each game winning hit! Our pitchers - Junior Fair, Dan McCrea, Adam Binder and Zach Badanes all threw complete game victories in allowing a total of 2 runs and 12 hits in 27 innings pitched! NICE!!! Special mention to Zach Badanes who throws the 1 hit Championship game clinching shutout! GREAT job Zach and to all out pitchers and players! Please read all the exciting game summaries below! Our boys did a fantastic job and played marvelous baseball while outscoring the opposition 15-3 in the 4 game tourney SWEEP!!

Game 1 - Astros 2 Lions 1                                                                                                                                                                                                WP Junior Fair (1-0)

The Astros get off to great start with a thrilling 2-1 victory as the winning run crosses the plate on a 2-out single by Cam Maron in the bottom half of the 7th inning! Junior Fair throws a fantastic ballgame in allowing only a single run to score in the complete game victory versus a very tough Lions club. After the Lions take a 1-0 lead in the 5th inning we answer with a single run in the bottom half as Dylan Harmon leads off the inning with a single and scores on a Dan McCrea 1-out single. The Astros push across the game winner with a 2 out 7th inning rally as Max Tecce singles, Dan McCrea doubles over 1st base and then Cam Maron's grounder finds a hole between 1st and 2nd base and beats the throw to 1st base as the game winner scores! Exciting finish and a preview of even better things to come!

The Astros continue on and man-handle a lesser ballclub, as we should, in a run-rule shortened 8-0 victory. Dan McCrea goes the distance and does a wonderful job in throwing the 6 inning / 10K / 3 hit shutout. The Astros steal 7 bases in the contest and play flawless defense as Zach Root drives home 2 runs with a single and double, Max Tecce singles twice and doubles while Vinnie Carminati drives home a run with his 2 hits (1B / 3B).

Game 3 - Astros 3 Lightning 1                                                                                                                                                                                         WP Adam Binder (1-0)

The Astros fall behind early to Kyle Hansen and the Lightning but rally for 3 runs in the 3rd inning and go on to win behind a gutsy performance from Adam Binder on the rubber. Adam not only battled a tough Lightning club but also prevailed versus an incredibly horrific home plate umpire who squeezed Adam like a lemon in a lemonade factory, nonetheless, Adam battled for 7 innings and ultimately wins a tough ballgame! GREAT JOB! In the 3rd inning we rally for the 3 runs as Eddie Martinez draws a leadoff walk, Max Tecce follows with a single and Dylan Harmon lays down a sweet sac bunt towards the right of home plate which the catcher fields and proceeds to make an errant throw down the 1st baseline into RF allowing 2 runs to score, what a break! Cam Maron doubles home Dylan for a huge insurance run! Game, set, MATCH!! Onto the Championship game!

WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS! The Astros come out primed to win, coming off 3 great ballgames we are confident and are unwilling to let this slip from our grasp! Zach Badanes throws the 1 hit shutout in a spectacular ballgame as he faces 3 over the minimum in a very efficient MASTERPIECE! The Astros and Blue Knights are locked up in 0-0 tie after 5 1/2 innings, then the Astros bat in their half of the 6th......Eddie Martines works out a 1 out walk, Max Tecce follows with a solid basehit, the boys then pull off a double steal and the Astros have runners at 2nd & 3rd with 1 out, up steps Dylan Harmon and he works out a walk to load the base, now batting # 9 Cam Maron, BANG!!! A long oppo double, 2 runs score, Astros take the lead!! WOW! Zach Badanes promptly goes out there and shuts the door on the Blue Knights in the top half of the 7th and the Astros are TCS Champions! Some of the finest baseball played in all of the Northeast!! NICE!!
