Triple Crown Sports Labor Day 16U Tournament - 9/1/07 thru 9/3/07 - North Branford, CT.

LONG ISLAND ASTROS FINISH IN 3RD PLACE

The Astros participate in the 2007 TCS hosted Labor Day Tournament in North Branford, CT. on Saturday 9/1 thru Monday 9/3. The Astros finish with a 2-2 record, good enough for 3rd place. The tournament included 2 tough 1 run loses in which we really could have won both games, we just didn't get the breaks and didn't take advantage of opportunities to plate runs. In any case, it was a well played tournament that was highlighted by a magnificent triple play turned in game # 3 versus the Southbury Red Scare, the Scare load the bases with none out in the top half of the 1st inning, their clean-up hitter hits a sinking liner to CF which Vinnie Carminati snares, Vinnie throws to Tecce at 2B who throws to Fair at 1B for the miraculous triple play, WOW!!! The Astros lose a tough 3-2 ballgame to the eventual tournament champ Boston Astros. The Astros trail 3-0 late in the ballgame before rallying for 2 runs while leaving the bases loaded to end the game, it was a great finish but we just end up short of pulling out the win. Felix Guzman pitched well enough to win and kept us in the ballgame the whole way thru as our late inning rally just falls short.

Game 2 - Astros 9 Wreckers 1                                                                                                                                                                                         WP Junior Fair

The Astros only need 5 innings to wreck the Wreckers in a 9-1 victory behind the 1 hit / 7 K pitching of Junior Fair who picks up the W. The Astros jump out early with 4 first inning runs and never look back from there. Dylan Harmon is a perfect 3 for 3 with 4 RBI in the game, NICE!!! Rich Olesen, Vinnie Carminati and Cam Maron each add an RBI with 2 singles apiece to lead a balanced attack.

Game 3 - Astros 7 Southbury Red Scare 2                                                                                                                                                                  WP PJ Lenz

The Astros turn a stunning triple play in the 1st inning which sets the tone the rest of the way in a 7-2 victory sending the boys into the semi-final round of the playoff round. In the bottom half of the 1st the boys keep all the momentum as Captain Cam Maron bashes a huge 2 run homer to put the boys out in front to stay! PJ Lenz goes the distance allowing an earned run and 4 hits while striking out 6 batters. Max Tecce also drives home 2 runs with his 2 singles as PJ Lenz singles twice and Steve Pesapane adds a triple.

Ouch, the Astros hook-up with the Milford Mohegans in a thrilling ballgame that has the Astros out in front holding a tenuous 1-0 lead going into the bottom half of the 6th inning.........A leadoff walk followed by a 2 out HB results in 2 runs and the ballgame in a tough loss to swallow. Dylan Harmon does all that he can in a gutsy effort as he goes the distance while surrendering 4 hits, no earned runs while striking out 7. The Astros score their lone run in the 4th inning as Cam Maron leads off with a single and scores on a double by PJ Lenz.
