Sal Agostinelli Inagural 16U Scout Tournament - 10/20/07 thru 10/21/07 - Yaphank, NY

LONG ISLAND ASTROS WIN!!!

The Astros win 4 out of 5 games and defeat the LI Eagles 7-1 and take home the Championship trophy in the inaugural "Sal Agostinelli Scout Tournament" @ Baseball Heaven the weekend of 10/20 as Zach Badanes throws the complete game in the championship game and notches the WIN! Zach Root's 2 out single in the 4th inning makes it a 2-1 game and the boys close it out with a 5 run 7th to cap the victory! In the game we had to win to get to the championship it was PJ Lenz who throws a complete game gem in defeating the Ducks 3-1 as Junior Fair comes up huge with a 2nd inning 2 run double which puts us out in front to stay! Tournament CO-MVP's are PJ Lenz AND Zach Root, great job to all the boys as this was truly a TEAM effort!!!

Game 1 - Astros 3 LI Padres 2  WP Kyle Hansen

The Astros win a tight ballgame behind a solid pitching performance by Kyle Hansen who goes the distance while allowing 7 hits and 2 earned with 9 K's. The big hit comes from off the bat of Mike Sorbara who blasts a long 2 run double to put the Astros out in front 2-1 in the second inning, the Padres tie it up with a single run in the 5th and the Astros answer with an unearned run in the bottom half of the 5th to go ahead to stay as Kyle and the Astros defense protect the lead late.

Game 2 - Blue Demons 3 Astros 2  LP Junior Fair

In a game the Astros & Junior Fair trail 1-0 going into the 7th inning the boys pull off an exciting 2 run rally and take the lead as Zach Badanes ties it with a single and Max Tecce singles home the go-ahead run. The Astros take the field in the bottom half of the 7th hoping to get 3 outs and the victory but the Blue Demons prove too tough and pull off a 2 run rally themselves and defeat the Astros 3-2 in a thrilling ballgame which ends up as a tough loss for us.

Felix Guzman earns the win as he allows a hit and strikes out 3 in the 4 inning run-rule victory.

The Astros and PJ Lenz (W) get the job done in a gritty and gutsy performance in defeating the Ducks 3-1 and earning the right to play for the CHAMPIONSHIP! PJ goes the distance allowing only 3 hits / 1 run while striking out 8 batters! Junior Fair delivers the big blow with a 2 run double in the 2nd inning to put us out in front to stay! Rich Olesen singles home a big insurance run in the 7th as Zach Root leads off with a single and Mike Sorbara sacs him to 2nd ahead of the Olesen single. The games ends on a beautiful 5-5-3 DP as Rich Olesen steps on 3rd and fires to 1st to end the ballgame, WOW!!!

WooHoo, the Astros put another CHAMPIONSHIP notch in our belt as we ground the Eagles 7-1 behind a game Zach Badanes who goes the distance while allowing 5 hits, 1 run and striking out 7 batters, great job Zach!!! The Astros jump out to an early 1 run lead as Captain Cam Maron gets the run home from 3rd base in the opening frame with a ground-out (E4) to 2nd, the Eagles score the tying run in the top half of the 3rd inning as the Astros answer with the eventual game winner in the bottom of the 4th inning as Zach Root smacks a 2 out single scoring Vinnie Carminati (E4/SB) for the go-ahead and ultimate game winner! The boys tack on 5 runs in the bottom half of the 6th as Vinnie Carminati, Zach Root, Mike Sorbara and Junior Fair add RBI hits to open it up and seal the deal for another successful tournament and sweet championship victory!!!
