LI Astros 17U are Baseball Heaven Labor Day Tournament Champions! The boys go undefeated and win the trophy with a 3-1 victory on Labor Day Monday behind the complete game pitching of Zach Badanes in a dominating effort. Solid pitching and marvelous defense throughout the entire tournament are key in leading this group of marvelous young men to a 4-0-1 record! Game 1 - Astros 1 Bronx Cyclones 0  WP Junior Fair

The Astros and Cyclones hook-up in a classic pitchers duel in the opener of the 18U Baseball Heaven Labor Day Classic. Winning pitcher Junior Fair is fairtastic in going the distance while allowing 4 hits, striking out 5 and allowing a single walk. The Astros score the game winner in their last at bat as Rich Olesen lines a 2 out single up the middle and then Ryan Rusoff, as cool as the other side of the pillow smacks a clutch game winning walk-off double to score Rich Olesen all the way from first! Ryan Rusoff, Rich Oelsen and PJ Lenz combine for 6 of the Astros 8 hits. GREAT START!

Game 2 - Astros 2 Tigers 2  ND Dylan Harmon

The Astros are 1 out away from a 2-0 win but the Tigers rally with 2 out in their last at bat and tie the game with a 2-out 2-run homer. Dylan Harmon is nothing short of marvelous in his outing as he throws 6 2/3 innings of baseball but is left with a ND. The team play's perhaps their best defensive game of the year while scoring 2 runs via a couple of sac bunts, a sacrifice fly and a fielders choice GO. Vinnie Carminati picks up an outfield assist throwing out a potential run at home plate on a bullet from CF as Cam Maron does a fantastic job handling the throw and blocking the plate. Great job one and all in a tough tie against a good Tigers team (NABF World Series Champs).

Game 3 - Astros 4 Whales 2  WP Steve Pesapane (S) Jared Mancini

The Astros beat a scrappy Whales team as Steve Pesapane (5+IP/WP) does all that he can to keep the game at a 2-1 deficit into the 4th inning. In the 4th inning the Astros load up the bases as Zach Root (2 hits) singles and Jared Mancini and Zach Badanes each draw walks, up steps Mike Angelone who raps a bases loaded single up the middle scoring 2 runs and puts the Astros out in front to stay! Clutch! Jared Mancini comes into relieve Steve Pesapane and Jared  works a 1-2-3 inning (2 K's) after the first 2 batters got on base. Way to get it done boys!

Game 4 - Astros 5 Blue Demons 3 WP PJ Lenz (S) Jared Mancini

The Astros win a must game to clinch their Championship berth and PJ Lenz (WP) is up to the task as he throws 5 1/3 innings while striking out 9 Blue Demons. Jared Mancini picks up his 2nd save of the night as he throws 1 2/3 (3 K's) innings of perfect relief. Cam Maron singles twice and triples in his 3 AB's while scoring 2 runs. Vinnie Carminati makes another fantastic throw from the OF (2nd tournament assist) cutting down a potential run at the plate as once again Cam Maron slaps the tag down on a bang bang play NICE!!! Aside from his arm Vinnie also delivers with his stick as he slaps a 2 run double in the 4th inning putting the Astros ahead to stay. Zach Root delivers 2 hits and steps up big time as a defensive replacement at 1B for Zach "Kitty" Badanes who injures his ankle early in the game.

WOW!! What can you say?!?!? In perhaps our most emotional game this year the boys get the job done behind the right arm of Zach Badanes who once again proves his dominance in the games that matter most. Zach allows 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 12 as the Astros win the 18U Labor Day Tournament at Baseball Heaven.

Cam Maron adds 2 more hits while scoring 2 runs and proving once again why he is an invaluable player on this team. Jared Mancini rips 2 doubles as his powerful stick continues to tear leather. Great effort by the entire team in a solid win as we go undefeated in 5 games to win a very much deserved tournament.
