LONG ISLAND ASTROS 17U FINISH BLUE CHIP PROSPECTS WITH A 3-0 RECORD AT BASEBALL HEAVEN THE WEEKEND OF 9/27. THE BOYS DEFEAT IBC FLORIDA 4-0 ON SATURDAY, ON SUNDAY WE RALLY FROM A 5 RUN DEFICIT TO SMACK JACK CUST NJ 7-6 AND THEN SHUTOUT THE LI MARINERS 9-0. THE ASTROS 17U CLUB FINISH IN THE TOP 4 OF 32 TEAMS BUT LOSE THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP HOPES AS THE TOURNAMENT ENDS WITHOUT ANY CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND PLAYOFF. The Astros jump out early with 3 1st inning runs and that is all Junior Fair needs as he is once again "FAIRTASTIC" as Junior goes the distance allowing 0 runs, 1 hit and striking out 9 batters!!! WOW!!! Rich Olesen singles twice and plays outfield with rocket-like abandon while pulling off a heads-up 9-3 outfield assist.

Game 2 - Astros 7 Jack Cust Tri State Arsenal 6 WP Zach Badanes

The Astros fall behind early and trail 6-1 after 2 1/2 innings of play as the boys make a few costly errors behind our MR. RELIABLE Dylan Harmon who surrenders 4 earned in 3 innings of work. The boys battle right back and score 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd as Cam Maron smacks a 2 run double scoring Ryan Rusoff and Mike Angelone who both singled to start the inning. The Astros continue to chip away and tie the game in the 5th as Eric Kotin drops down a squeeze bunt to tie the ballgame. The Arsenal threaten in the top of the 7th as they load em up with none out, drawn in infield, BAM, low liner to 2nd which Ryan Rusoff snares for the out and throws to 3rd for the DP!!! NICE!!! Zach Badanes strikes out the next batter for the 3rd out, WOW!!! Up come the Astros in the bottom of the 7th, Vinnie Carminati leads off with a single (his 2nd hit of the game) and with 2 out steals second, up comes Rich Olesen who proceeds to drop a ball in front of the RF'er scoring Vinnie Carminati on a close play at the plate, ASTROS WIN!!! The winning pitcher, Zach Badanes throws 4 GREAT innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win. What a great game!

Game 3 - Astros 9 LI Mariners 0 WP PJ Lenz

The Astros finish up on a high note in beating up the LI Mariners by the score of 9-0. In this game we witness an extremely scary moment as our starter and winning pitcher PJ Lenz crumples to the turf after delivering a pitch, he dislocates his right shoulder and is taken by ambulance to the hospital, our thoughts and prayers were with PJ and his family.

The game ends with Rich Olesen closing it out with 1 1/3 innings of relief while Mike Angelone smacks a 3 run triple to right center to end it. The boys finish up the event undefeated but are unable to play for the championship as Blue Chip decides that no championship games will be played due to the weather issues over the weekend.
