Triple Crown Sports 17U Tournament - Newburgh, NY 9/20/08 thru 9/21/08

Congratulations LI Astros 17U team on winning Triple Crown Sports tournament in Newburgh, NY the weekend of 9/20! We win 4 of 5 games and defeat World Yacht Clippers 3-2 in the championship game to avenge our only loss. The boys are forced to win 3 games on Sunday and we do just that as co-MVP Rich Olesen (W) throws 6 innings in the championship game and catapults this team to victory! Our Captain, leader and co-MVP, Cam Maron, is totally and completely unconscious as he is 8 for 11 (2 2B's, HR) with 5 RBI. Jared Mancini picks up a win, save and game winning single in our semi-final game while contributing mightily all weekend. Marvelous effort by the entire team, congratulations again! Game 1 - Astros 7 Leftys Lightning 4  WP Jared Mancini

The Astros trail 4-0 after 4 1/2 innings as the team from NJ score 4 3rd inning runs and are feeling quite good about themselves, at least until we batted in the 5th inning.....The Astros get 2 men on with 1 out in the 5th and up steps Vinnie Carminati who proceeds to deposit a long blast over the RF fence to make it a 1 run ballgame, it remains that way into our home half of the 6th inning when the boys flex their muscles yet again as Cam Maron smacks a  CLUTCH game winning 2 out 2 run HR over the CF fence to put the Astros out in front 5-4, for good measure and not to be out done Zach Root bangs a mammoth 2 run HR over the LF fence scoring PJ Lenz and closing out the scoring. Jared Mancini picks up the win with 3 innings of scoreless baseball in relief of Eric Kotin.

Game 3 - Astros 2 Tri County 1  WP PJ Lenz  (S) Jared Mancini

The Astros beat a scrappy Tri County Bulldogs team as PJ Lenz guts it out over 6 innings in a ballsy performance in his first outing since fracturing his finger 3 weeks ago as he allows 2 hits, 1 run and strikes out 7 batters. PJ also drives home what turns out to be the winning run with a 3rd inning sac fly. Jared Mancini saves another ballgame pitching a perfect 7th inning while also delivering 2 singles and a 1st inning RBI. Big win for the team in a do or die situation, onto our semi-final matchup!

Game 4 - Astros 7 Next Level Baseball 3  WP Dylan Harmon

The Astros win their semi-final match-up behind the right arm and heart of Dylan Harmon who reaches down deep and wills this team to victory in a complete game performance against a talented group from MD. The Astros lead 3-0 into the bottom of the 5th inning as Next Level rally for 3 runs and tie the game. We do the little things right in this game as Ryan Rusoff sac bunts twice which leads to runs in the 1st and 5th while Cam Maron delivers 2 RBI singles and 3 hits total. Zach Root singles and doubles with an RBI, Rich Olesen singles and doubles while scoring 3 runs and playing SS as good as we've seen. The Astros turn a sparkling 4-6-3 DP in the 6th to stop a rally as Next Level threatened to take the lead. The big hit in the ballgame is delivered by Jared Mancini in the top half of the 7th inning as Jared delivers a bases loaded single to LF scoring the game winning hit and putting us out in front to stay! It's onto the CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!

Game 5 - Astros 3 Clippers 2  WP Rich Olesen 

The Astros get it done yet again! When the game matters most the boys are up to the task! Rich Olesen comes into the ballgame in the 2nd inning to relieve starter Jared Mancini, Rich proceeds to throw 6 innings allowing single runs in the 4th and 6th innings and picks up the WIN in a thrilling ballgame! The Astros trail 1-0 after 4 innings but rally for 3 runs in the 5th as Zach Badanes leads off with a single followed by an Eric Kotin walk, Dylan Harmon drops down a beautiful sac bunt down the 3rd base line and the fielder proceeds to throw it wide of 1st base allowing the tying run to score, our 2nd and 3rd runs in the inning score on an E6 and RBI single by Cam Maron. The boys withstand a Clipper rally in the 6th inning as the tying & go ahead runs are left at 2nd and 3rd as Zach Badanes snares a hard hit, bad hop ball between SS & 3B and throws to 1st where PJ Lenz picks a tough one at the bag for the 3rd out of the inning PHEW!!!! The game ends on a nifty 6-4-3 DP and the Astros EARN another Championship! GREAT JOB TEAM!!!
