NJBL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME! ASTROS -vs- SHARKS

Sharks 8 Astros 7 (10 innings)                                                                                                                                                                                         LP JC Clancy

My, my, my!!!! What a baseball game!!!! Even though the Astros come out on the short end here this was quite possibly the most exciting game I have ever been involved in! The Astros jump out to a 5-0 lead after our 1st at-bat as Vinnie Carminati delivers a 1 run single, Ethan Peck a 2 run single and Matt Montemaro a run scoring double. The Sharks battle right back and put up a 4 spot in the bottom half of the 1st inning to make it 5-4 after 1 inning of play. In the second Ryan Rusoff delivers a 2 out 2 run double as the Astros lead 7-4 after 2 innings of play. In the 3rd inning starter Everett Keller loads the bases with none out and in comes Dylan Harmon who puts out the fire as the Sharks add a solo run and the score stands at 7-5 after 3 innings. The Sharks chip away with a single run in the 5th inning and the game comes down to the Sharks last at-bat in the 7th trailing by a single run. In the 7th inning the Sharks score an unearned run and tie the score as the Astros let the victory slip away and the game goes into extra innings. The Astros are unable to score in the 8th, 9th or 10th innings as the Sharks tight D and our untimely hitting ultimately allow the Sharks to score the game winner with 2 out in the 10th inning to seal the deal and snatch a championship away from our Astros club. Our boys showed grit and determination in this one, JC Clancy threw his heart out in 2 2/3 innings of work, this included working out of a none out bases loaded jam in the 8th inning which preserved the tie and sent the game into the 9th inning. In that unbelievable 8th inning Rob Gotterbarn also made an unbelievable play behind the plate as he threw out the batter on a short squib in from of the plate with the winning run charging home from 3rd base, an inning which many of the boys will never forget. Dylan Harmon throws 5 innings of masterful relief while Matt Montemaro delivers 3 hits in the game, great game by all the boys in a truely great championship finale!
